In the context of this fellowship, I have been working solely on ISO/CD 24138, the International Standard Content Code. The ISCC is part of “ISO/TC 46/SC 9 Identification and description”.

This fellowship project has prioritised ‘gap areas’ where the lack of adequate DLT/Blockchain standards is slowing the formulation of government regulations and cross border agencies, or where ambiguity of language is causing confusion or slowing integration of distributed systems.
Through this fellowship project, I am directly pursuing the development, approval, and publication of the following standards: ISO 22739:2024 ‘Blockchain and Distributed Ledger Technologies – Vocabulary’, ISO/TR 24332 ‘Blockchain and Distributed Ledger Technology in relation to authoritative records, records systems, and records management’ and ISO/NP 24982 ‘Digital currencies – Vocabulary’.
Overall, I am taking a more holistic view of the AI standardisation roadmap while pursuing in parallel my contributions to specific AI standards in SC 42 and JTC 21.
My work supports the development of smart energy grids, allowing to integrate a high share of renewable energy sources and to support new usages such as transports electrification (e-mobility).
This standardisation project will boost the creation of a certification system for biometric solutions to be used in different scenarios. One of the first scenarios to be addressed is the remote identification of citizens using videoconference tools, i.e., using facial recognition with the users’ own personal devices (either computers or mobile devices).
This project should therefore have a positive impact on the ability of SMEs to produce and assess quality NLP systems, and should simplify compliance with the AI Act requirements.
My fellowship significantly contributes to the ICT standards landscape by advancing the Biometric System-on-Card (BSoC) standards, particularly within the ISO/IEC 17839 series.
In the proposed activity the gaps related to standards will be tackled within three working groups (WG) where I am contributing to: IEEE P1872.3, IEEE P1955 and IEEE P1872.1.1, related to multiple robots, reasoning, 6G for robotics and task representation and planning.
At the high level, ICT standards must establish a framework for ensuring trust, interoperability and interoperation via secure and reliable applications, as well as facilitate the stakeholder ́s engagement.
This fellowship is meant to increase confidence in cybersecurity through the convergence of international SDOs and the alignment behind a common international standard which relates both to the market and society.
A significant challenge for European industrial plants is ensuring reliable connectivity and interoperability among wireless devices. RPL has been developed to specifically address these challenges.
