There is further progress related to the Third Generation Partnership Project (3GPP) Non-Terrestrial Networks (NTN) for the Internet of Things (IoT). The 3GPP Radio Access Network (RAN) Plenary meeting occurred in Madrid between 9th and 12th December 2024. A one-day workshop was planned for the 3GPP Release 20 in the RAN Plenary meeting. More than 200+ submissions from 50+ different companies and organisations were received. A new NTN for IoT work item is proposed for 3GPP Release 20. The candidate topics for the new NTN IoT work items are shared below. The final scope will be decided in the next RAN Plenary meetings.

Support 5G Core connection for NTN IoT under system architecture and service group coordination. A terrestrial IoT 5G Core connection could be the baseline.
Support voice-over NTN IoT geostationary earth orbit satellites to bring new business opportunities.
