The CEN/TC 465 Ad hoc Group on Climate-Neutral and Smart Cities and Communities was established to accelerate the integration of sustainability and digitalisation in Europe’s urban areas. Supporting the EU’s 2050 climate-neutrality objective, the group brought together experts from policy, industry, research, and local governments to translate high-level EU ambitions into concrete standardisation pathways.

This report provides an immersion into the outcomes of the StandICT.eu 2023 Open Call #8 from the perspective of fellows that were selected and funded under this call. The primary purpose of this document is to share the results attained through the work carried out by the funded experts, and to showcase the most relevant outcomes, creating awareness of the potential impact and repercussions of such impact on commerce, industry, governmental policies and strategies and the society.

This report blazes a trail for global standardization. For the first time, representatives from many different SDOs and academic institutions have created an open access database of specifications, reviews and guidelines for a particular theme (Artificial Intelligence)

This report provides an immersion to user empowered outcomes of the StandICT.eu 2023 Open Call #1 from the perspective of fellows that were selected and funded in this call. Our team is proud to present the first series of StandICT.eu 2023 success stories of the funded fellowships detailing the addressed standards and landscapes, how these will fill in the identified gaps as well as impact the related stakeholders and society. Standardisation plays a vital role in creating a fair market-based competition and help ensure the interoperability of complementary products and services.

Europeans must find ways to sustain European innovative businesses to seek ways to commercialize standards and bring them into new value chains. Standards allows us to go cross boundaries, to fuse together nature-based solutions, this is why innovation in the climate domain is critical to enable the creation of a genuine design of the ecosystem so profoundly important in today’s digital driven society. Global standardisation has traditionally thrived from open, bottom-up member contributions.

Digital Twins represent one of the most novel and promising  concepts within the general trend of digital transformation. They are a distinctly 21^st century invention. The term is attributed to Prof. Michael Grieves of the University of Michigan in 2002, and the approach was adopted in particular by NASA around 2010. The concept has proved very powerful and has now been universally used across domains, and yet we have only scratched the surface of what they can or should do.
