Impact on SMEs (4th Open Call)
The project contribution in terms of the CWA under development will support SMEs that want to or are required legally to have a DPP for their products, which is a majority of SMEs in Europe. Close to 30 product categories are expected to be mandated to have a DPP in the mid-term future. To ensure the CWA effort is impactful for SMEs consideration is made of CEN-CENELEC GUIDE 17: Guidance for writing standards taking into account SME needs (2010). The impact on these SMEs is expected in terms of accelerating their journey to develop and set up their Digital Product Passport. By providing a concise guidance document that has been developed as a CWA pre-standard for understanding the scope, context, potentials and design and implementation decisions for Digital product passports.
Impact on society (4th Open Call)
The CWA will also benefit European society by supporting economic actors to understand how DPPs can support their activities by enabling new information generation mechanisms and sharing for a circular economy.

Description of Activities

Within my WG, we address the gap in the link between digitisation and environmental sustainability, and particularly of products and services. Specifically, digital devices and related elements ranging from materials to e-waste are a significant part of our environmental problem.

Impact on SMEs (2nd Open Call)
It is particularly important that European SMEs find DPPs a way to communicate the sustainability advantages of their products better and that producing a DPP, and digitalising product information becomes an advantage and not an additional obstacle to SMEs. One of the advantages of ITU and ETSI over other standards development organisations is that these standards will be free and more accessible for SMEs.
Impact on SMEs (6th Open Call)
Relevant for any size organisation that produces or modifies ICT products that are part, involved in any stage, of the circular economy. Particularly, this is very important for social enterprises in the business of repair, refurbishment and recycling. This is the case, for instance, of the European RReuse.org association that groups social enterprises with more than 100.000 jobs.
Impact on society (2nd Open Call)
The digitalisation of product-related information has the aim to contribute to a transition to more environmentally sustainable and circular products.
Impact on society (5th Open Call)
The resulting standard element from this work will support legislative initiatives in the EU for implementing the digital product passport for ICT products in Europe and globally. This work focuses on environmental information for ICT products, and is complementary to other digital standards about the DPP in Europe and globally. Also, this a relevant standard for any size organisation that produces or modifies ICT products that are part, involved in any stage, of the circular economy
Impact on society (6th Open Call)
The resulting standards from the ITU-T L.GPSIM work item will support legislative initiatives in the EU about ecodesign and sustainable products to remove data sanitization as a risk and barrier to the circular economy (reuse and other circular processes to extend product lifespan) and for the implementation and evaluation of circular economy initiatives.

Description of Activities

In my role as a circular economy expert, I actively contribute to the advancement of Smart Circular Economy Standards for Europe. I ensure that standards align with EU policies like the European Green Deal, advocating for their integration into standardisation efforts.

Impact on SMEs (6th Open Call)
Especially SMEs lack sufficient funds to develop the internal capabilities to transition to circular business models. Bringing the ISO 59000 family of standards in line with European policies and regulations makes it not just easier to fulfil legal requirements but to also go beyond short-term requirements and gain a competitive advantage by transitioning to circular business models.
Impact on society (6th Open Call)
Transitioning to a circular economy has profound societal impacts by promoting sustainability, resource efficiency, and economic resilience. It fosters a reduction in waste and pollution, which enhances environmental quality and public health. By encouraging businesses to design for longevity, repairability, and recyclability, it creates new job opportunities and stimulates innovation across industries. Additionally, it empowers communities to engage in sustainable practices and reduces dependency on finite resources. Overall, a circular economy nurtures a more sustainable, inclusive, and resilient society, aligning economic activities with long-term environmental and social well-being.

Impact on SMEs (4th Open Call)
Despite the fact that 95% of industries are composed of SMEs, there is a significant underrepresentation of this organisation's viewpoint on standards development. I am the liaison officer of the Small Business Standards in all the TCs at ISO. I contribute to giving a voice to European SMEs in standardisation at the European and international levels. In addition, to provide comments in the meetings I promote the use of the compatibility test of the SBS and collaborate in the workshops to facilitate the mutual understanding among the industry and the SDOs.
Impact on society (4th Open Call)
These standardisation efforts support the achievement of the objectives of the Green Deal and the SDGs, as well as the political objectives of the European Commission and support for the New European Standardization Strategy. As a convenor position of a key working group at the ISO level, I am able to promote the European values in standards development. In addition, this action promotes the improvement in the efficiency of public services with the use of reliable applications and technologies that contribute to sustainable development.
