The StandICT.eu Standards Training Academy hosted a webinar diving into the USA's standardisation strategies in ICT on 2 Dec 2024 from 18:00 to 17:30 CEST (11:00 – 12:30 EST).
Introduction
Companies having their headquarters in the United States were very active and successful in setting their company standards, but also having leadership positions at ISO and IEC in the last century. In 2023 the Biden-Harrison administration published the Strategy following the publication of the European Standardisation Strategy in 2022. Meanwhile, concrete plans for the implementation have been published.
The webinar intends to get an updated overview of the US standardisation strategies and activities in general, followed by a closer look at its activities in ICT. Based on this background, we first discuss the opportunities and challenges the US and its big techs in international standardisation. Then, we discuss the implications for the EU before we try to identify opportunities for further collaboration and joining forces for reciprocal benefits and address global challenges.
