Industries and SMEs in the EU are facilitated in adopting standards. One of the main barriers for standard adoption is the complexity of the standardisation processes. In order to claim conformity, multiple requirements coming from multiple standards should be met. The AI Trustworthiness Framework will serve as an entry point for industries and SMEs in order to facilitate this process, fostering conformity and facilitating industry competitiveness.

The framework simplifies compliance by serving as a single reference point for multiple obligations under the AI Act. This helps SMEs adopt standards more easily, reducing barriers and supporting competitiveness through clearer, harmonized guidance.

This barrier damages both the economic benefits and the social benefits of designing innovative AI systems. The AI Trustworthiness Framework will reinforce social trust in AI systems, by providing companies, consumers and ultimately citizens with a clear understanding of the fundamental requirements for trustworthy AI.

This standard has European Strategic Importance that includes notably sector-wide Implementation and strengthening privacy infrastructure.
Firstly, regarding sector-wide implementaiton, AI technologies are becoming deeply embedded in Europe’s core industries—including services, healthcare, finance, ICT, and transportation. With the growing dependence on generative models in these critical sectors, establishing trustworthiness standards is no longer optional but essential. A standardized approach ensures consistent, ethical, and responsible AI implementation across all application domains. Secondly, related to strengthening privacy infrastructure, Europe has established itself as a
global leader in privacy protection through GDPR and the EU AI Act. The proposed standards reinforce this regulatory ecosystem by specifically targeting vulnerabilities like data breaches and unauthorized access to sensitive information. This creates a harmonized framework
that both facilitates regulatory compliance and strengthens public confidence in AI systems across EU member states.

My contributions in JTC22/WG3 are mostly related to quantum software, i.e., software that is executed on quantum computers but also software that is executed on classical computers for enabling/supporting quantum computations. In Europe, new SMEs are growing around the quantum software topic. Therefore, I feel that the activity I am carrying out in the context of JTC22/WG3 will be beneficial for those companies.

Quantum application benchmarking will benefit industrial end-users, quantum computing manufacturers (hardware and software) and Governments. The general intent is to fulfil their needs for objective performance comparison of emerging quantum processors, providing application benchmarks with specific metrics and methodologies.
