In the medium to long term, this work can support more coherent European AI cybersecurity standards by bringing regulated-financial-sector governance, traceability and supervisory considerations into the discussion. For European financial SMEs, clearer alignment between horizontal AI/cybersecurity standards and sector-specific obligations can reduce interpretation costs, duplicated controls and implementation uncertainty. Better-defined expectations around evidence, dependency risk, accountability and escalation can also strengthen operational resilience, auditability and cross-border consistency. More broadly, this can support trusted AI adoption, improve interoperability and lower barriers for SMEs seeking to deploy or supply compliant digital solutions across the EU.

Custom funding impact (2nd Open Call 2029)This short-term fellowship supported entry as a newcomer to the international ICT standardisation groups. The original workplan assumed early direct access to CEN-CENELEC JTC 21 and participation in a draft review and comment cycle. Establishing an appropriate expert participation route took longer than anticipated, so the plan shifted toward standards landscape and governance-alignment analysis, the StandICT mentorship process, liaison with DIGITAL SME, and public dissemination. This resulted in a concrete route for appointment to JTC 21/WG5 – Cybersecurity for AI Systems, with prEN 18282 identified as a potentially relevant work item.
