PISA – Italy, 02.08.2023 - StandICT.eu and CyberSEAS signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU).

This collaboration is momentum for leveraging the projects’ efforts in contributing to standardisation in the cybersecurity of power grids.

Since 2018, StandICT.eu endorses the European experts’ contributions to international ICT standardization. It runs a fellowship programme funding around 400 European standardisation experts in a series of 9 Open calls providing a total of almost 3M€ of funding. Furthermore, the project runs the European Observatory for ICT Standardisation (EUOS); an interactive online ecosystem including an up-to-date ICT standards repository and working groups sharing insights about ongoing standardization efforts across varied ICT areas. In addition, StandICT.eu Academy focus on training future standardisation. StandICT.eu focuses on horizontal and vertical ICT fields as defined in the Rolling Plan for ICT Standardisation, including cybersecurity for power grids, also targeted by CyberSEAS.

In the context of standardisation, CyberSEAS aims to utilise established standards such as IEC 62443 and IEC 62351 standards to ensure that industrial systems comply with necessary cybersecurity requirements, and information exchange in energy management systems is secure and protected from potential cyber threats. Moreover, CyberSEAS tools and solutions provide additional support to these infrastructures in adhering to these standards and frameworks.

The MoU can consolidate these commitments of both projects and leverage their work in ICT standardisation towards new stakeholders.

One of StandICT.eu’s target stakeholders in European R&I projects with a task dedicated to standardization. We aim to engage these projects in our community to widespread their standardisation efforts and support them in getting engaged with the related European experts. This collaboration with CyberSEAS opens doors in the field of standardisation for the resilience of energy supply chains, which is of great importance!” reflects Mona Marill, StandICT.eu Fellowship Programme Manager.

The collaboration between StandICT.eu and CyberSEAS represents a significant step towards advancing the security of Electric Power and Energy Systems (EPES) sector. The primary objective of this joint endeavor is to exemplify the practical application of different industrial standards within the EPES domain.” stated Anas Husseis, leader CyberSEAS standardization activities.

StandICT.eu has launched its second open call for European experts in ICT standardisation, providing direct funding for their engagement in international standardisation work group. This StandICT.eu Fellowship Programme can support the CyberSEAS project to link with more experts dealing with standardisation in cybersecurity and smart grips. On the other hand, CyberSEAS endorses StandICT.eu Programme’s outreach to European research communities.
