While the EU favors Proof-of-Stake (PoS) for sustainability, PoS relies on complex tokenomics and legal layers that hinder non-financial industrial adoption. This leaves a critical blind spot for European engineering sectors—such as energy, smart grids, and IoT—where autonomous agents (M2M) validate transactions based on operational logic rather than coin yield.

By introducing density matrix formalism to measure consensus stability independently of token speculation, this WG 5 standardization work delivers key long-term impacts:

  • SME & Economic Benefits: Enables European deep-tech SMEs to deploy lightweight, time-based, or hybrid consensus (e.g., PoET/TEE) without legal/tokenomic overhead, lowering market entry barriers.
  • Technological & Sovereignty: Provides a physics-grounded metrology baseline for M2M networks, bridging high-tech engineering with DLT governance and reinforcing EU industrial leadership.

    While this short-term fellowship did not directly yield a new or revised ISO standard draft, it delivered essential pre-standardisation work within ISO/TC 307 WG5. The mission focused on critical conceptual and technical framing—specifically analyzing governance frictions, entropy in distributed systems, and the limits of DAO frameworks. By providing a rigorous information-theoretic and economic perspective, the project helped identify key barriers to scalability and usability in permissioned and permissionless architectures. Rather than pushing for premature standardization, this work contributes foundational evidence and publications that will inform the future roadmap and guidelines of WG5 and related technical committees.
