Digital and ICT Professional skills performance play a vital role for the European economy and society, and dedicated EU reference standards are essential. SME’s form the backbone of the economy in Europe, with almost two-thirds of employees in the EU working for an SME. SMEs often struggle with digital transformation and the optimal use of AI due to limited resources. Clear references and frameworks for skills and roles requirements for the digital and AI domain can be an essential aid for small and medium-sized enterprises when planning, recruiting and developing staff. The standards also provide the common language needed to interact with education providers and policy makers to understand and raise awareness on SME specific skills needs dealing with AI and digital more in general as well as with other specific technologies, and to find from there efficient and effective ways to get the right staff.

Artificial Intelligence
The advancements made during this fellowship for the Artificial Intelligence and Cybersecurity field were successful and provide valuable experiences for transfer into other technology and business domains. Guidance for transfer should be made available more systematically, and, at the same time, this work should be continued and even further intensified within the AI and cybersecurity field. Collaboration among multiple parties across the European digital eco-system is key and there is high value in this Stand-ICT enabled work in particular from an SME perspective which I represent as an owner of an SME, and which is among the key target groups to address for a prospering European digital economy. It allows targeted effort to the sake of the digital eco-system community inside and outside standardisation landscape not only in the short, but also with pro-active view at the mid and longer term.

Custom funding impact (2nd Open Call 2029)This fellowship project is implemented on various levels and in close collaboration with SDOs and multiple experts involved, with the purpose of making best benefit from EN16234 e-CF and further ICT sector transversal TC428 EU digital skills standards for trustworthy, secure and robust AI within the digital Single Market. CEN Workshop "AI Professional Role Profiles and AI Educational Profiles": CWA 18398 (CWA being a pre-standard) was published in June 2026.
It also supports my role as a convenor of CEN/TC428 ICT professionalism and digital competences WG2.
