Proposal(s) title:
  • Integrating Citiverse and Local Digital Twins via Data Spaces
Proposal(s) topic:

Web 4.0 and virtual worlds

Impact on SMEs:

Libelium is a SME and it has directly contribute to Libelium and other SMEs working on Data Spaces, Digital Twins and Citiverse by lowering entry costs via reusable NGSI‑LD/MIM8 profiles and Toolbox components; reduced lock‑in and faster integrations, and making easier the market access to Data Space Ready patterns (CT73/UNE) and Gaia‑X alignment for trustworthy exchange.

Impact on society:

I see a bit different societal impact of each target project: Interoperable public services and vendor‑neutral procurement via NGSI‑LD/MIM8 profiles. Trustworthy data sharing for cities/SMEs through UNE 0087 an Gaia‑X trust mechanisms. Inclusive urban innovation under the Citiverse initiative (human‑centred, open, safe).

Contribution impact:
  • New standard development
Proposal(s) title:
  • Data Quality and Interoperability for the European Data Spaces, EU Local Digtial Twins and Citiverse
Proposal(s) topic:

Data Economy

Societal, Economic or Technological Impacts:

The work aims to make local digital twins and data spaces easier to connect, procure and reuse across European cities. Shared architecture, semantic models, provenance, data-quality definitions and policy-aware data exchange can reduce bespoke integration and dependence on individual suppliers. European SMEs should be better able to offer interoperable components and services across cities, while public buyers can specify clearer interfaces and quality expectations. Linking standards discussions to EU LDT Toolbox implementation experience can expose practical gaps early and improve the reliability and portability of AI-enabled services. These are expected medium-term benefits; the fellowship evidence demonstrates contributions, working-text integration and dissemination, rather than quantified cost savings, market growth or city-wide adoption.

Contribution impact:
  • New standard development
  • Revision of existing work items
  • This fellowship supported my involvement to both new and revised standards through:
    1. ETSI TC DATA: EN 304 181, AI-based EU Local Digital Twin reference architecture, with related work on EN 304 182 and TR 104 183.
    2. ITU-T Focus Group on AI for Smart Sustainable Cities (FG-AI4SSC), WG3 TG3.1: Interoperability of Infrastructure for AI-Enabled Cities and Communities.
    3. OMA SpecWorks SmartCities SIG; LwM2M interoperability and alignment with NGSI-LD and Smart Data Models for urban digital twins.
    4. Eclipse Dataspace Working Group
    5. UNE draft data-space reference architecture

Value of Research

The sectors of Digital Twins, Virtual Worlds/Citiverse, IoT and Data Spaces are fragmented, especially the uneven uptake of NGSI‑LD, Smart Data Models/SAREF and governance models creates a barrier for cross‑domain interoperability in cities. Therefore, I focus on harmonising these layers within ITU‑T Citiverse and EU Local Digital Twin  (LDT) Toolbox. I also contribute to aligning LDT and Data Space governance with UNE 0087:2025 and the Gaia‑X Trust Framework to operationalise sovereignty, compliance and automated conformance.
