The Joint Workshop on Digital Technology Standards & Capacity Building, scheduled for May 7th, 2026 in Tokyo, will bring together key stakeholders to align on the future of digital standardisation. The event will focus on how international collaboration can accelerate the development of common standards in critical technologies such as AI and Quantum, while also strengthening the skills and ecosystems needed to support them.

The workshop will open with an overview of national standardisation roadmaps, giving participants a clear picture of how different countries are approaching digital policy, innovation, and regulatory alignment. A central part of the event will be dedicated to digital technology standards, with a strong focus on artificial intelligence and quantum technologies. Speakers will present policy visions, ongoing standardisation efforts, and real-world initiatives shaping these fields.

StandICT.eu will play an active role in the Capacity Building session of the workshop, contributing to the dialogue with its expertise in education, skills development, and support for ICT standardisation across Europe. The project will participate in the Capacity Building session, with two key representatives.

Knut Blind will present the EDU4Standards initiative, focusing on how European higher education is integrating standardisation into academic programs. He will show how universities are helping build a culture of standardisation and preparing students to engage in global standards development.

Gabriele Casalini will present the StandICT2029 Mentorship Programme, explaining how it supports and trains the next generation of ICT standardisation experts. He will outline how the program provides funding, guidance, and access to international standardisation bodies, enabling young professionals to actively contribute to standards work.

StandICT.eu will also take part in the final discussion for future collaboration, alongside international stakeholders. In this session, Gabriele Casalini will share perspectives on how to scale capacity building initiatives, strengthen international cooperation, and ensure a continuous pipeline of skilled experts in digital standardisation.
